Those wind turbines are such eyesores

#WindPower #GreenEnergy #politics

@grrlscientist That 'dark satanic mill' looks so 19th century, but just showing high-voltage power lines would make the argument. And those are linear, not point, features.
@grrlscientist Wot you have to understand is that the coal plants are in mucky dirty parts of the city where poor people live, whereas some wind turbines are in pretty parts of the countryside where rich people live.
@grrlscientist
A pity I can’t boost this, because you haven’t added Alt Text. 😢
@KimSJ @grrlscientist
Is there a way to add AltText and credit original artist, on someone else's toot?
@SusiArnott @grrlscientist
The way I do that is to create a new toot with a copy of the image, with altText, and h/t (“hat tip”) the original poster. Or if you’re really annoyed, instead add “stolen shamelessly from a poster who didn’t include alt text”. 😜
@KimSJ @grrlscientist It bothers me more that it looks AI generated. One objective measure: the speech balloon should be white, yet it's yellowish, which is a common AI bias.
@grrlscientist Cues Aqualung, cuz black lung is fugly...
@grrlscientist, reminds me I had some pretty shots of coal plants to post.

@grrlscientist

My only beef is when they chop down trees to erect wind turbines. There are better spots than in the middle of our forests, thanks.

Those forests are an important part of the water cycle and the carbon cycle and we will not gain optimal climate stability by deforesting.

@Sea1Am Depends on where you live, where I am they're built in large areas of open bog that used to be traditionally cut to provide turf to be burnt for heating, now the surrounding houses are having solar and heat pumps installed, all backed by government subsides to ease the cost of transitioning over to renewables, a 5kwp system with a 5kw inverter is roughly €5k installed and connected to the grid.

@grrlscientist

@FlanFlinger @grrlscientist

Ofc, I don't mean to criticize all "green" projects, but the other day I was confronted with an article patting Germany on the back for building a giant turbine in the middle of a beautiful forest.

Like, come on guys, those trees are much more valuable than we realize, not to mention the mycelial/root networks below the surface.

The rains tend not to fall on deserts, but they do over rainforests, because the trees bring the rain via transpiration.

On the right there is a windturbine and green hills. On the left there is a coal fired plant and dirty air and ground. In the middle there is an old man facing right and saying, "Those wind turbines are such eyesores".

@grrlscientist This should be dedicated to all those self defined "ecologists" who said things like "those horrible turbines would deface the magnificient landscape of typical vineyards". It's not invented, I've read such statement on local newspapers, years ago.
@grrlscientist what's the obsession with coal? Everybody is phasing out coal. Using it as part of any argument is moot.

@Stefan_S_from_H @grrlscientist

Old people not liking the new generation and criticizing everything out of resentment. Also jobs lost and their past exploitation, an eyesore of an exploitation reminder.

@Rixer @grrlscientist I’m not sure you understood me.

Talking about coal at all is a sign of someone who doesn’t see the current development. Using it as an argument is a tool of nuclear bros who only know these two options.

@grrlscientist i get it, but there is a square space of coal / power plants and drive a mile or two away and you can't see em. (cept the smoke)

windmills, it's miles of giant spinny fans.

while i appreciate the look and environmentalness of the WMs. i had to adjust my glasses and point that out.

also. mac and me.
