RE: https://mastodon.social/@pojntfx/116345677794218793

This is not acceptable, plain and simple.

@Gargron

And against law, I assume.

@_RyekDarkener_ @Gargron

I hope so. Can we do something about this? Like, e.g. burn their[1] sorry asses?

[1] This is pretty large plural. Indeed I want to see everybody who thought this was Ok and participated in such a design decision to be "freed" up for tasks for which they are more suited. Disinfecting phones, for example. And if everything else fails there is still an arch to Golgafrincham we could could offer them a place on.

@Gargron

This must be taken down ASAP. This is a solution tying EU countries to the US controlled environment, with US describing and treating EU as an adversary.

Someone should ask publicly how many crypto coins had flown to the wallets of politicians pushing this insanity.

@Gargron

"The Government is legally obliged, under EU regulations, to ensure there is a digital wallet for accessing public services by the end of the year, and for private services by the end of 2027."

Public consultation launched for Ireland’s proposed new digital wallet

People can register to test the digital wallet app on the Government’s website.

BreakingNews

@fae2535 @Gargron If the quoted post isn't any indicator: The problem isn't the requirement to provide a digital wallet/ID solution. The problem is HOW our german government wants to solve it and WHICH services they want to exclusively use for this.

The outcome is that anyone can be blocked from access by order from a foreign (namely the US) government on a whim. Anyone jailbreaking their phone will have no access. Anyone using android forks is one business decision apart from being locked out.

@Weirdaholic @fae2535

I think if you're using an Android fork you're already locked out from the get-go?

@frog_reborn @Weirdaholic @fae2535

This is what I also believe.

@glitzersachen @frog_reborn @fae2535 depends if they incorporate the necessary google services (for verification stuff) and if google decides to support the device OS. Especially de-googlefied OSes will be impacted by default, but otherwise compliant Devices can be shut off on a whim, if google decides they're not "trustworthy", anymore.
We see something like this already with competing app repositories like fdroid.

@Weirdaholic @fae2535 @Gargron

Since my banking app refuses to run on LineageOS, because some Google security or attestation framework shit is not there, I very much suspect it will be the same for any digital Wallet. So I think we are already there and not 1 business decision away.

@Gargron Simply ridicolous and well-known "Failure by Design" here.
@Gargron Thanks for boosting. Otherwise I would have missed it probably.
@Gargron this means that you'll have to have your location turned on when using the app. They collect this data across populations.

@Gargron

Pinging @EUCommission

What about taking up a stance on this?

@Drums_in_the_night @Gargron @EUCommission

Count me in. I also want to see some consequences.

@Drums_in_the_night @EUCommission @Gargron Or at the very least, do you plan to study the technical feasibility of allowing alternate, sovereign providers in case an user is unable or unwilling to use a foreign provider?

@csolisr @Gargron @EUCommission

The problem is not "foreign code" (21.century, you know), it's about open source code and who has access to my data.

@Gargron given the eu's significant shift away from American Tech this feels it would not only be unacceptable as you have said, but also extremely unpopular
@Gargron Is anyone else getting the impression the #TechBros are abruptly maneuvering to gain as much data on the masses, before SHTF globally?
@Gargron UK Gov Digital ID team watching and taking notes
@Gargron This would appear to mean that if the US sanctions someone (say, for the offense of being an official of the International Criminal Court investigating crimes in Palestine) that person becomes a non-person in Germany, if Apple and Google are ordered to refuse their business?

@Gargron

So it is basically nothing but a marketing forward…

Laughable!

@Gargron Did you confirm that the linked text leads to the conclusion? In this case it might not. See my comments in thread (where also nobody else tried to confirm the initial assessment).
@Gargron Maybe we should start our own Internet. From scratch.

@Gargron

So, it turns out the German implementation of eIDAS (electronic ID wallet for e.g. age attestation) will require an Apple/Google account to function

Brainless persons in government office,

More likely they were purchased/bribed by us companys.

Absolutly not acceptable.
