Ffs wise up! One drone hits a #nuclear plant and what happens? Whereas any number of drones hit #wind turbines or #solar farms. The operative word is #resilience A $100 drone can create another #Chernobyl Are politicians really that stupid? Figure it out for fucks sake! #energie #energy #renewables #wind #europe #fossil #Zaporizhzhia #ukraine #pollution #radioactivity #Pripyat

Faced with new energy shock, Europe asks if reviving nuclear is the answer

As war drives up gas and fuel prices, Europeans turn again to the issue of energy independence.

Another Chernobyl does in my opinion require just that, another Chernobyl: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RBMK

These exist in Europe.... in Lithuania and Ukraine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power_reactors_in_Europe

"A $100 drone can create another #Chernobyl?" I think you need something bigger: "But deliberate attacks involving large airliners loaded with fuel, ... were not considered when design requirements for today's fleet of reactors were determined." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulnerability_of_nuclear_facilities_to_attack#Nuclear_terrorism

Global deaths per energy source| Statista

The number of deaths per energy source is far greater for fossil fuels than renewables, with air pollution a key factor for this.

@Twelvebarblues The much bigger thread seems to be dirty bombs and attaches on nuclear weapons.

I don't hear much complaint about those. This reminds me of the same irrational fear when people absolutely refuse to board a plane but happily jump into a car: https://etsc.eu/transport-safety-performance-in-the-eu-a-statistical-overview/

If nuclear power makes Europe MORE resilient, we should look into it. Chernobyl has been a misinformation party for media and an HBO series...

Continues improvement has made our lives better, not resigning in fear.

Transport Safety Performance in the EU - A Statistical Overview

Transport crashes in the EU killed about 39,200 EU citizens in 2001, cause over 3.3 million casualties and presently cost over 180 billion Euros, around twice the total EU budget for all activity.

@Twelvebarblues Personally, I found "Inside Chernobyl's Sarcophagus" form 1991 to be an excellent watch. The BBC has its own interest in telling their story, but hearing what the scientists are saying i found to be extraordinarily interesting.
