Anthropic just emailed subscribers: starting tomorrow, your Claude Max/Pro subscription no longer covers third-party agent harnesses like OpenClaw. Want to keep using Claude outside their apps? Pay-as-you-go, billed separately.

Their reasoning: "these tools put an outsized strain on our systems."

Translation: people are getting too much value through tools Anthropic doesn't control. AI walled gardens are here.

@solomonneas I didn't even know that other agent's could use the subscription bucket. I always thought you had to use the API payment bucket on those other tools. That's why I never even tried. Oh well...
@Xavier yeah openclaw had "official" support for Claude sub oauth flow, it was listed on their onboarding readme for awhile. Opus used to be the recommended model but now its more vague and just mentions latest anti prompt injection models. It went through the usual app oauth process that gave a year long token. Just about every other big AI provider supports the openclaw oauth. Third party Claude Code wrappers and Agent SDKs will still be supported by Anthropic.
