There’s a tradition in my family that when you turn 13 your grandmother makes you a quilt. My grandmother died when I was 3, so I was very touched when my great-aunt (who I had only met a couple of times) made me a quilt when I turned 13.

My Mom never learned to quilt but I want to continue this tradition. I am honorary auntie to my dear late friend’s son so I made him a quilt when he turned 13, a few years ago, 🧵1/2

with prints relating to all the places he’s been and favourite things. This month my nephew is turning 13. I have been quizzing him about things he enjoys and am carving, printing and sewing accordingly! Hence the hockey jersey block. 🧵2/2
@minouette Curious: what are you using to color the fabric? Some sort of ink that won't wash out? Fabric paint? Dye?
@minouette what a wonderful tradition. So special.
