Why are there no regional trains between Modane (FR) and Susa (IT)? There are only 3 high speed trains per day in each directions.

is it just SNCF's usual "Do Not Want!"?

A Swedish travel magazine just claimed there are "countless" direct trains (in addition to HST from Lyon) from Chambéry-Challes-les-Eaux to Milano. 🙄

Pic: the trip without reservation (incl bus). <30 min by TGV/Frecciarossa. >14 h without reservations

@interrailinfosvenska there are 2 Frecciarossa a day not included in Interrail. So 5 a day. No regional trains. Due to the voltage change you’d have to extend a Torino-Bardonecchia regional to Modane. Eminently doable, but given there’s no political will it’s not done. Welcome to #CrossBorderRail 🤷‍♂️

@jon True, I must have checked a day with only 2 TGV and 1 FR.

Maybe a diesel train would be an option? Or are there to many tunnels for that ?

But that doesn't help if there is no will.

At least there is some local bus Bardenocchia -Modane (which Railplanner users will never see)

Thanks

@interrailinfosvenska No. Run the Italian train across to Modane. That works. You just can’t run a French one to Bardonecchia.
