Have you studied writing? Did it prepare you, or did you learn more by doing?

Not "writing" in particular, but I did have an academic career (including a PhD), which did influence my writing style.

My love of footnotes comes partially from that, and partially from #Pratchett .

Alas, Mastodon doesn't allow footnotes, although some other #Fediverse applications do.
