Trixter of the Moon CouncilIt’s #caturday and I accidentally a foster pregnant cat
(The crate is just until she gets settled from the trip, she’ll have the run of the cat room but I’m trying to give her the idea that that’s the baby-having spot.)
New Mama was brought to the rescue as a stray, and I know she’s all hormonal but I get the feeling she’s more sassy than spicy. She let me pet her but she gave me A Look about it.
Mamacat looks to be close to having her kittens and I am extremely squeamish about pregnancy and childbirth and the only pregnant foster I’ve had took care of everything by herself while I was at work one day so thoughts and prayers 😭
I need to decide on a name for this mamacat and since the kittens are going to be heading for a cat cafe that’s part of a bookstore I was thinking this could be my chance to name her Lady Jessica and give the kittens Dune names but if she has more than like 2 girls I’m fucked

The rescue is being really generous about buying me food right now because they know money's tight, but I could really use a new kitten room camera if I'm dealing with a pregnant mama. My old one, a super-basic Yi model, has been enshittified into being barely usable, and I'm sitting here at work frustrated that I can't look back at what was going on with her an hour ago because I'm concerned about something, and... ugh.

Mamacat Status: Still baking. The kittens (and maybe her, depending on temperament) are going to be at a cat cafe that’s part of a bookshop so I think I’ll do some classic author names for this batch. So here is Mary Shelley.
Gonna start a PolyMarket for when she goes into labor and how many cat beans she’s growing in there.
I have already had to explain to a newer coworker that this is not one of my own cats who I just haven’t spayed, all my permanent residents are spayed and neutered SIR. 😤
Still on Kitten Watch, if anyone was wondering. The rescue got three pregnant cats this month and mine is the only one who still hasn’t given birth. The others had healthy litters and everyone’s doing great. I think it’s gonna be this week though!
Here are the other two with their 0-1 Day Catbeanz. The black and white one had six kittens, the white and orange one had EIGHT. (That’s a lot!)
Honey, you’re gonna have to actually give birth at some point.
KITTENS ARE HAPPENING
We are at 4 and I don’t think she’s done. She’s being a little grumbly about me hovering so I’m going to give her space to do her thing. But everyone seems to be healthy and active and nursing.
It’s been an hour and we’re holding at 5, there may still be a surprise coming but I think that might be our total. One solid black, two brown-gray tabbies, and two blue-gray tabbies.
And here were are. Five little ones: a solid black one, two brown-gray tabbies like Mom, and two blue-gray tabbies. The blue-gray ones remind me a lot of my Anastasia and Windsor. One of the brown-gray tabbies is a bit small, which is not totally out of the ordinary (queens can mate over the course of a few days, leading to kittens in the same litter being conceived a few days apart), but I’ll be keeping a close eye on that one. Mary is being a great mom, though with the casualness of someone who has done this before.
Babies are all fat and cozy this morning. 💙
The Fediverse is my favorite social media because nobody has failed to check the context and aggressively asked me if I was going to get my cat fixed now, which happened a few times on Twitter the last time I had a pregnant foster.
Fun Fact: Their bedding is going to look a little gross from the birth for a few days because it’s actually best to leave it for a bit. There’s good smells and pheromones and stuff in there.
Edgar says he needs to go in the Baby Room because he is Baby.
