@ariadne Power not being mentioned at all in the press release is quite interesting...
Might be a guess but arm64 gained the critical mass to make it preferable for IBM to implement *instead* of Power ISA...
@ariadne @never_released i thought it was a standalone system at least for z/linux
tbh i wouldn’t be surprised if low end z that replaces power that uses commodity peripherals instead of channels materializes; it wouldn’t hurt the z/OS cash cow. though now if this is real, i also wonder if they plan to deprecate linux on z as an ecosystem and replace it with arm64

@never_released At first glance, I'd have said the new instructions will be to support Arm64 virtual machines--z/boxen being very good at virtualization.
I may be quite wrong, of course, as it's ages since I was any kind of sysprog.
