Especially if these sites are focused on generating revenue.

While I like the concept of Surf, I'd also like to know, if it is OpenSource?

@fasnix @surf Currently it is not. The backend is built on 16 years of tech at Flipboard which would be difficult to OS to be honest without major work done. We've thought about building a streamlined backend and then open sourcing the client. But so far, that has been just a thought.

@surf I have looked thru the FAQ. But I still dont quite understand the structure.

Can a fedi-citizen follow a feed?

Do fedi posts only appear on Surf feeds? As in, does this just gather open social posts?

Can fedizens comment on posts made on the social website?

Is Surf open source?

Can social websites migrate to a different server or private server?

How is Surf funded?

Do you allow access to data to partners? For what reasons?

@surf You do realize that an organisation called #surf already exists? They are supporting education in the netherlands to host a #mastodon instance for each school or university that wants one. (Oh and they do A LOT of other cool tech stuff as well)

I've tried all sorts of search queries, but at the best it returns the podcast as an RSS source.
