Hours before US President Donald #Trump's scheduled address to the nation on the Middle East conflict, Iranian President Masoud #Pezeshkian issued an open letter to Americans pushing back against how Iran is portrayed in global discourse. In the message, he rejected the idea that Iran poses a security threat, arguing that such claims do not align with "historical reality". He described Iran as one of the world’s oldest continuous civilizations and said the country has not pursued aggression or expansion in its modern history, instead defending itself when attacked.

Iranian President Pezeshkian says his country’s current distrust of Washington is due to several reasons, including foreign intervention and “inhumane sanctions”.

@MissConstrue One of the most striking things about this war is that Iran's spokespeople generally sound so much more reasonable, articulate, intelligent and educated than their American counterparts.

This is not to detract from the suffering that so many Iranians endure, and their need for greater freedoms, but it does complicate decades of anti-Iran propaganda.

Geopolitical perceptions are rapidly evolving right now.

@0mnishambles The US has done in a month what Iran hasn’t been able to do since the Revolution, which was make them look like the good guys.

They are coming across as the only rational actors. Trump is dementia laden, hegseth is a raving kkk neonazi, and BiBi is a genocidal monster.

Bibi came out and said that the whole reason for the war was to “neutralize “ Iran so they could build a pipeline across Saudi, and ship oil out of Israel instead of Hormuz. Which goes a long way to explaining why they’ve murdered so many Palestinians, so they can steal the coast.

And goes a long way towards explaining their massacres and bombing in Lebanon, as they work towards the old Phoenician ports.

Iran pointing out that Israel has never been America’s friend is finding more ears than it would have before.

@MissConstrue I wasn't aware of the pipeline rationale for Israel's behaviour. Thanks for that.

American discourse emphasises domestic issues (polling, gas prices) ignoring the extent to which its betrayals (UA, CA, DK, WAR) mean the world now loathes it - not just Trump, but the voters who elected him twice, and the institutions that capitulated. Trump is the avatar of the end of American hegemony.

And Israel's evils are now clear for all to see.

@0mnishambles I’m watching a video from Crossworld news, a channel I don’t know and haven’t verified, but they are showing footage from Tel Aviv being pounded today, like Iran did to Tel Aviv what Israel did to Southern Lebanon, but nowhere near what they’ve done to Gaza.

The comments are wild. Every single one, and there are lots, are all celebrating hitting Israel and cheering on Iran.

Bibi really overplayed Israel’s hand, trying to stay out of jail, AIPAC really, really overplayed their hand, and lost the support of Dem voters, and now everyone has seen who their government is, and it’s even worse than the USA.

And now it’s on us to make sure this doesn’t become about Jews. Because this isn’t a Jewish problem, it’s an Israeli problem. And despite all of aipacs efforts to say that it was antisemitism to say anything bad about Israel, the two are not the same thing.

@MissConstrue In Australia, support for Palestinians is also routinely attacked as ’antisemitic’. The people know better than their politicians and media, but we do have to fight actual bigotry.

I’m encouraged by progressive Jewish voices, and follow +972, Haaretz, etc. But then I also see dispiriting Israeli opinion polls, and the rhetoric across its political parties.

Israel can’t continue with apartheid, and genocide requires justice. I don’t know how these will be achieved, but they must.
