@cmconseils to be fair, the idea this represents is itself a rather crude abstraction of how it really works. I'm not sure one can say they understand genetics if they know/understand that
@cmconseils that is funny and wrong at the same time. 😁
@cmconseils It ignores dominant and recessive genes, which is how we get black sheep… but it's a close approximation.
@cmconseils Over 20 years ago in high school I struggled hard with genetics in biology. I wish I had seen this image back then!

@cmconseils

When I see this powerful explanation, I can't avoid to recall this other genetic map:

https://www.cell.com/cms/10.1016/j.cub.2022.08.027/asset/a8c40759-516f-4f31-91e3-1fb9c03efd34/main.assets/gr3_lrg.jpg

which shows the part of Neandertal (blue bars) and Denisova (red) human species in the Sapiens 22 chromosomes pairs.

The scale at upper right corner spreads from the yellow 0% of both (aka the sapiens purebreed) to the purple 3% dots on the world map. This showing crystal-clearly that the genuine sapiens pure breed is in South Africa, that our only "pure breed" is made of blacks only, and all which claims otherwise is pure false fascist propaganda bullshit: the true "invaders" are white, since then.

@cmconseils I'll keep this handy to show to those who have children so they can leave a legacy behind and are against adoption. Makes it very clear how quickly your genes get diluted out into the general population.
@BenjaminKlein @cmconseils this is a terrible, unfunny joke, yes? You are not a gross person like this in isolation makes you sound... Right?
@noodlemaz @BenjaminKlein @cmconseils Sounds like they're saying folk who are both against adoption and also hold their genes as somehow sacred will be shown this to prove their genealogy would be impure anyway unless they're into inbreeding so adoption would be better.

@nini @noodlemaz @BenjaminKlein @cmconseils

Agree. I think the statement was misunderstood because of how the first sentence is constructed. Also got me at first before I read the following sentence.

@cmconseils @realtegan
I love this image; it's a practical guide to genetics. #Biology
@MagnusIdode @cmconseils
Vastly simplified, but a good introduction.
@realtegan
Absolutely! Sometimes starting simple is the best way to understand genetics before diving into the chaos . I also think Mastodon is great for broadening my knowledge in so many different areas.

@cmconseils

My first guinea pig was an all black female. I told my parents I wanted to get a white male and breed gray babies.

Parents: "It doesn't work that way."

Guinea pigs: numerous lovely gray and gray & white babies.
