Oops, I did it again; recommended a #EuropeanAlternative just to cause it to enshittify days later. Sorry guys.

#DeepL is teaming up with Amazon, and of course they are in their good right to do that, but I'm still a bit disappointed learning that opting out or cancelling account involves sending emails back and forth.

Was great as long as it lasted though.

@pernillet

@oldrup do you know of a european alternative, or maybe open source alternative @jeppe

@pernillet @jeppe My next step is to give Jan another shot. An open source locally run AI app.

Paired with a smaller LLM created language with translation in mind I had good results, albeit it works best with a GPU.

On the web, Firefox built in *local* translation is also adequate for basic needs, example in the screenshot.

I also use sometimes builtin Firefox translator. And I will try out your suggestion (i didnt know about it)!

I added here https://mastodon.social/@antoniovr/116272831686278201 a toot about #Disroot's Libretranslate instance and the app #TranlateYou which can run several translation services (including the mentioned libretranslate instance, other free engines, proxies of google, etc.). You can choose whether to use one or several services. I show you a screenshot
