There was awful news in Dublin city centre this afternoon, as a young man was killed while cycling near O'Connell Street. Road violence in this country is simultaneously out of control and horrendously minimised.

Male cyclist (20s) dies following collision with a truck in Dublin city centre

The collision happened at the corner of Abbey Street and O’Connell Street on the north side of the city shortly before 1pm this afternoon.

@ronanmcd They're absolutely right, unfortunately - never a truer word spoken.

Yet, policy makers will carry on with the current plans to make helmets and high vid mandatory for cycling - things that would have had absolutely no protective effect against a massive cement truck.

The only reason why I wear a helmet these days is to cut off that line of victim blaming if the time ever comes.
