If you bought a new car in the last 3ish years and it wasn’t an EV or at a minimum a Hybrid. Fuck off, you don’t get to complain about gas prices. You made your choice.

@jwilker Still driving my 2004 Honda Insight (very first hybrid in the USA). 50-60mpg *and* a manual transmission in a hybrid!

Still holding out for an AWD EV suitable for wintertime use (in Ned/Ward/Eldora areas) that doesn't cost twice my annual income though.

@notthatdelta Dang! That’s impressive it's still going!!

A manuel EV... Kinda jealous! We went from manuel to EV and I miss the shifter.

@jwilker Just a hair under 200k miles, although it has its issues. Battery pack is on the way out, so there's a long involved discharge/recharge cycle I have to do a few times a year to get it settled back in. They do make Lithium battery conversions to replace the original NiCad packs, but those run about $3k and it's hard to justify the cost.

Still a very neat car though!

@notthatdelta Oh wow, NiCad even! And yeah big investment on something that old. Getting that long out of it though is no small feat, way to go!
@jwilker I drive 'em until they fall apart!
@jwilker I guess technically I did, since my daughter turned 16 a year ago and we added a car to the fleet, and she was not getting anything fancy as a first car. It is 13 years old, older than our main cars by only 1 and 3 years, but newer than the other one by 16, so really, EVs were not really in the picture yet when these cars were made. 🥴
@zenwheel Ha yeah I feel like the * to my post would be “old used cars excepted” for sure
@jwilker I guess you did say "new", it's weird that's an ambiguous qualifier
@jwilker If only someone had had the foresight to subsidize EVs so they’d be more affordable for more people to move to!
