really missing a good service to host and categorize my photos in one place
okay so I've been trying @vernissage for a bit over a week now and it seems to be almost exactly what i needed + the fact that it's ActivityPub-federated is a nice cherry on top

However, lack of Android app or ability to create albums/collections of images is a bit of a bummer, but I can live without it. Overall the service is really decent for photography-first use and that's what matters

You can follow my photo account there at @rail ^.^

Thanks @mczachurski
@rail Thanks a lot! Albums, groups, and similar features are definitely on the roadmap. Before that, though, I still need to focus on more important things, like abuse reporting across instances. I also hope someone builds an Android client eventually. Progress is slow since I’m building this mostly on my own after work and other responsibilities, but I’m really happy with how it’s turning out. πŸ˜‰
@rail i remember trying a couple but none really fit what i needed (which isn't to say they wouldn't fit your needs, because those are different)
@SharpLimefox i'm genuinely starting to think old-school PDF/printed zines with photos of specific topics and vibes is the best way to form a portfolio xD
@rail i've seen people recommend immich lately but idk how good it is
@lina for my own archival purposes that would be fine but i mean like, to share my gallery of photos publicly

idk if it would be viable for that

i guess i could harass @ptrc to try out her immich lol
@rail @lina depends on what you want to do
sharing one entire album, with a Google Photos-ish UI? Immich is great for that
but a more structured, publicly hosted gallery.. not really
@ptrc @lina i'm yearning for something like Flickr but not utter shit β€‹
@rail @ptrc @lina didn't someone create flickr but federated? it was called vernissage or something, haven't tried it

@aroma @ptrc @lina ooooh that actually looks quite interesting, i'll take a look

Vernissage - Rediscover the beauty of photography

Vernissage is a photography-first social platform for sharing your work in high quality, discovering new artists, and building a thoughtful visual community.

@rail i use ente.io, i really like it (also its selfhostable, if one is into that kind of thing)
