For some god-awfully dumb sycophantic reason both Danish and Dutch news today report on the "extremely high gas prizes in the USA".

Just for context. Petrol in the USA is currently just a bit over one euro per liter.

Our glaciers are melting.

I contacted both outlets btw. Just got a reply from the Dutch one. This might infuriate you:

...

...

here it comes.

...

here:

"Our journalist did not realise a gallon is not equivalent to a liter. Instead of editing the article we have fully removed it and will work the relevant content in another article."

@juliette points out this suggest they don't actually have editors doing even basic fact checking. Nor have a "vague awareness of the world".

Context:

-the Proclaimers promised to walk over 805 kilometers and then the same distance again. Did they ever do so? Da-da dum diddy dum diddy dum diddy da da da

-downing a gallon of milk will make you puke, downing a liter of milk might make you puke. Stomach size thingy.

Journalism 101 really.

Also our glaciers are melting.

Starting to realise I need to Have A Talk with my mom who thinks she will visit us by plane in June but can't find an affordable flights that there simply may not be any planes flying at all by mid-June. https://euobserver.com/209324/europe-needs-fossil-fuel-limits-now/

The Danish outlet didn't reply to me but the article is now updated (without mentioning as such). Any references to US fuel prices are gone.
@Pepijn That’s as close as you can expect them to saying “we hire idiots”
@Pepijn um, what?! 🙄😮😭
@Pepijn Wow, what a blunder. But credit for giving an honest response and for taking down the article.

@sorenhave Yeah 2x. That said, how they didn't even talk around it ("oh, small editing mistake" or something) stunned me more than the original blunder.

It's one of the largest Dutch news-outlets and they basically say there's no editorial check on their main feed.

@Pepijn I can't believe it 😮
@Pepijn
Well, their cars run about three times less efficient, so per kilometer they pay about as much as we; so fair. /S
@Pepijn
Addendum, our social media officer didn't realize a mile is not the same as a kilometer, so their calculations may have been off. /S
@janneke @Pepijn addendum: our social media officer didn't realise Americans use dollars, not euros, be right back

@Pepijn The news media are owned by the #kleptocrat class, the kleptocrats profit from our glaciers melting.

Absolutely nothing surprising here.

@Pepijn that's both hilarious and so messed up.

I'll try and get in contact with DR if I find out they too hired baboons

@Pepijn
I saw a meme once:
"Einmal mit Profis war früher, heute reicht schon einmal ohne Idioten."
Roughly translated:
"Once working with pros - that's history,
today, once without idiots would be enough."
@Pepijn It’s an easy mistake to make, since US petrol prices are so unbelievably low.
