Your opinion on April Fool's Day & do you incorporate the day into your work?

I love them to death and back that's why I incooperate them into everything and even took coding classes to hack my washing machine, to play the hobbit soundtrack while running.

...
...
...
...

Obviously not. I don't run a washing machine.
But seriously, I like clever ones that are good spirited, most find entertaining and don't make someones day worse, so no pranks or jump scares, no bad surprises.
Bad sadly lot of people make me wish that the habit of Aprils Fools jokes dies out. Especially the fools part feels mean spirited to me.

Do you use any special means to get to know your characters? E.g. character sheets, prequels, interviews, etc.

As I mentioned yesterday on my answer to name finding on Penned Possibilities it's similar in its variety funnily enough even my DND characters do not start as Character Sheets.
I start with the concept. I am looking for existing lore for DND or in other media that I could borrow ("steal"*) as an inspiration, most of my characters start as a scene in my head and not as anything more, than I start to imagine how they got there. This is why I call that a meme other may call it concepts but for me it begins with a very limited impression of this soon to be a full blown persona.

*not to train AI or make money but to generate something new out of it, mostly using the concept & derivate something from it and only if DND does not already has such parts & for my private play.

For which characters do you come up with a backstory?

Every Character from Main, over Secondary to Tertiary Characters has at least something going on.
Only set Deko (like Door stopper number 57*) don't have background.

Tertiary Characters often just get 5 -15 lines while MCs get 1 to 6 fledged Din A4 pages of, not in the main story handled, background. SCs live in the Limbo in between both extremes.

Tertiaries are ment for more flexibility. Marking down some crucial points and references where they might have crossed into the worldbuilding roots of another MC or SC.

*I never wrote any character as a simple door stopper or door opener in a scene but it really sounds like a dystopian, cyberpunk faith...

Edit: why I didn't put it right here instead of making a new toot?
My first upload to AO3 thanks to this prompt.

Choose a character to invite to a party. What kind of party is it? Does it have special rules (dress code, bring alcohol, etc.)?.

I plan to have some sort of party in mind for the moment the Ghoz'Tarc crew takes Mondira into their ranks.

As a Union/Alliance vessels, collecting a new crew member from one of the Unions most powerful adversary Worlds might lead to some interesting situations. Maybe they have to take a shore leave n secret?

Or Kira and Arkham have a real date on an officially not considered save 3. state planet.

Maybe I throw them into a Metall Concert or a BDSM party because I can, including something rough coming up afterwards that could lead to more political tensions.

Not sure yet but it might be worth going through.
A fine dinner in an extreme costly restaurant?
I should give them at least a week of shore leave I start to think...🤔
Imagine the outcry on Eodin...😅

How would the character from question 4 react to being invited?

Okay, Mondira is thrown into some chaos as the crew welcomes her with a surprise party.

Arkham would probably invite Kira for a restaurant visit and totally freak out over unshackled capitalism prices. From which Kira would just offer to pay which would anger Arkham because she invited Kira.
As an deal Kira might invite Arkham to the Metal concert or the BDSM party which both would highly stress Arkham especially with the dress code "stay under the radar, blend in" while the dress code on a kiky Playful Party wouldn't be her problem. Seeing other people having partly sexual related activities might be to much for her. So it probably would be a concert of some smaller local bands that are probably anti Union/Anti alliance which would make it basically an undercover mission... Kira might blend in well visually if she wants but mind wise? Arkham would be the opposite but anxious...

Can you create a character/place/storyhook/device on the spot, if you need to? If so, share an example.

Yes and no. It takes a few seconds to come up with a character in a location and something this character is doing.

If I see an inspirational part of the above elsewhere my mind jumps into action. I can turn out whole worlds in less than an hour, including a lot of characters and setups story elements of the history but it's just like a glimpse of driving by. If I don't write down everything or do anything beyond creating it, it fades, I have more ideas forgotten than some people had...
Storyhooks only work very simple most times it's a clash between two factions, be this the king against his brother or two rich bastards.

It's a bit more complicated if people challenge me with must have elements, but not entirely different. I guess it stems from my time as impromptu story telling person and DM Roleplay games.

Kingdom Rantare a medival looking kingdom on the moon. We are in the bed chamber of Lady Ryse's personal maiden. She has almost a stroke as she realizes that someone at the court has used Lady Rise's wedding dress as a cleaning utensil.

The marriage is scheduled in 6 hours and was ment to end the animosity and the trade war between Rantare and the Nation of Whisping. A nation of space traveling merchants mostly that trades in all legal goods and determine what are legal goods.

For 34 years they had 'encounters' with Rantares royal Navi and it's trading fleets. Until the Queen of Rantare and the Trading Queen came to the conclusion that a marriage between their factions would be highly beneficial.
So they searched 'the land' for volunteers that would agree to such a marriage if both representatives find each other interesting enough.

Everything went wonderfully simple until today... And in 6 hours this ruined piece of Collarisin Silk should be worn...
