Experimenting with creating a halftoned printing plate. The file is 720MB which is pretty large! We'll see how it turns out when (if?) it prints. OpenSCAD warned me with "GeometryEvaluator: Node didn't fit into cache" but it seemed to render and export okay.

@rasterweb I'm curious how printable that turns out to be.

How many layers tall are the halftone features planned to be? If much more than 1, I wonder if a sort of truncated pyramid structure would help or hinder. especially for those little tiny dots.

@stylus It's 3mm tall, with 1.5mm being the place and 1.5mm being the dots.
@rasterweb 720MB STL, thatโ€™s gonna be one unhappy slicer. I suspect itโ€™ll prompt you to simplify your model for performance reasons, which youโ€™ll most likely benefit from.
@cmdrmoto Yeah, I figure go crazy for this one. If it works, hooray, if not, we'll simplify.
@cmdrmoto Slicing on my fastest computer and it's been about 10 minutes and it's 25% done... Reminds me of Skeinforge in 2011! ๐Ÿ˜‚
@rasterweb I'm betting some cold hard cache, that you can do this.
