My feed today has been full of an argument about voting

In a democracy (even a massively flawed democracy) the worst thing you can do is not vote. You need to get out there and vote, every time you are able, even if all the options stink you need to hold your nose and vote for the one that stinks the least.

I get the hopelessness, I get the feeling that no matter what you do you are damned, those are natural responses but you still need to get out and vote.

Getting out to vote doesn't mean you have to tell a politician or party that they can count on your support no matter what; heck voting in a leadership race (Canada) or a primary (USA) doesn't even mean you have to support that person / party in the actual election if a better option is on the ballot; it just means you are in the fight and are doing what you can. Giving up and doing nothing condemns everyone.

@RantingCanuck

Australia has laws the get a 95% turnout at the ballot box.

I do not see any sign that Australia is better governed much better than the US or Canada or UK. Higher turnout will not equal better governance.

We need to think outside of these boxes.

@RantingCanuck This is the one big thing on which I disagree with George Carlin. He had the right of so very much, and he saw through the bullshit to a degree many of us weren't ready for. And he knew that voting to create change is hard. But his takeaway was to not vote, and I absolutely disagree.
