‘What does a social class that rules planets realistically look like?’ That’s the question I want to try to answer with concept art in my new world building project that I’m live-streaming every weekday at 7:30am Pacific.
t’s not simply ‘pure decadence’. We see in our own world how intelligent billionaires limit their reliance on tech and excess. They choose to do some things the “hard way” even with near unlimited power.
Even in my own life, I walk places I could drive to, and take on tasks for the enjoyment of struggle. We can’t assume a sci-fi aristocracy would be all tech, chrome and idle leisure.
I’m starting from ‘Bridgerton’ as an idea, but I want the world to grow organically and make sense. It’s not going to be the Regency Era in space, because that doesn’t make sense. We can do better than that.
@eldritch48 I have thought about this when I saw the first if the new Dune movies. The society was just royalty and cannon fodder. No planetary culture. (Caveat: haven’t seen the 2nd Dune movie and I don’t know any Dune lore from the boom etc…) #dune
