I made the mistake of registering my three books with the Anthropic Copyright Settlement folks using my name without a middle initial. Now they are inundating me with email and letters saying that maybe I missed applying for these other books written by other Paul Hoffmans.

@paulehoffman

make up a few titles too. their AI will say they're real, right? :)

@paulehoffman They have a weird idea of authorship. They notified me about four books. One is freely downloadable under a CC license; it didn't strike me as ethical to receive money for it. One I'm not the author of; rather, I was a program chair for a conference, so I'm listed as an editor of the book. The real content belongs to the authors of the papers, and the editorial selection to the program committee. One I had no connection to at all—I have no idea why I was listed, except that one of the actual authors was a co-author of mine on another book. The fourth one was correct and legit. I filed.

@SteveBellovin @paulehoffman

seems like their authorship search is about as clever as their other algorithms. something equivalent to "grep <name> document"...
