Fitness advice please. My goal is to keep extending my distance that I ride in a day.
My medium/long goals are:
69km day this year (I think this is probably going to happen by September)
122km day in 2027
190km day in 2028, maybe 2029.

My current progress is 46km in 3:10 (2:40 moving).

Assuming I can do one big ride 2 out of 3 weekends (and other rides when I can), should I be trying to slowly add a couple of km each ride, or pause at the current distance and try to do it faster?

@LovesTha Stretch your goals and play it by ear. You can probably go further and sooner than your goals suggest, not discounting any wind or hills along the way.

@BongoTwisty at some point I need to get faster, as I'm not wanting to do the 180km at the same average speed I did 46 this week.

I still expect 180km to take a long time, but if want to do it in less than 18 hours, more like 10~11hours

@LovesTha Keep cycling a regular habit and endurance will follow naturally. Speed will increase to a point then may need a bit of push to it to where you want it to be. Speed and endurance are two different goals that may not necessarily align past what occurs naturally. I guess that's where HR zone / power meter / interval training comes in. Not something I much experience of. Dabbled a bit but quickly lose interest.
@BongoTwisty @LovesTha I think Alexander’s advice is spot on. I have often heard that you can ride in a day what you ride in a week and I think that is basically true if you are riding every week. One of my friends (who is much faster than me) says “Throw in few intervals every ride and you’ll be fine.” I think you will reach these distance goals sooner than you think.
@RayKuntz @LovesTha "you can ride in a day what you ride in a week" - not hear that before but my experience is that this is true plus a bit more on top.
