you get fucking none of that in new vegas

go here. it's brown and flat. there are always these X ants here

go here. there are always these npcs here

the only randomization in nv are patrols, and a handful of scripted encounters if you do specific things

you never end up with a massive ncr/legion/house securitron firefight on the strip

that can't happen in the vanilla game

you can get absolutely (almost?) cross factional combat encounter situation in 3 and 4

you're fighting a yao guai and losing then suddenly a fucking radscorpion pops up outta nowhere and starts attacking the bear

then some random ass raiders join in, shooting everyone

new vegas is like kotor: this guy is always here with this other guy

you can make a straight line gamefaqs walkthrough for it with basically no deviation because it's always the same

and you know what? if you like that kinda gameplay that's fine

just recognize that it's static and not everyone prefers that

the funniest part is new vegas stans are actually split on what "good writing/narrative choices" actually means in the game, esp regarding fo3/4

one camp just repeats it mindlessly and it can mean anything, but usually it means nothing because they wouldn't recognize narrative choice if it bit them in the ass

another camp says something like "sure it's linear but that's just what obsidian does it's still a really good story!"

which is ummm... anyway, how about that info dump dialogue huh

everyone gives the railroad shit for how they operate in fo4 then "legion spies" just makes everything work in nv

fo4 literally airdrops deacon quietly into the background as an observing generic npc to gather intel on you and that's bad writing

and then you actually do the legion quest with silus and find out just how fucking incompetent the legion is even beyond what is presented in the main throughline

vault 22 does have an elevator you can repair, but you might not be able to. it's also buggy af and sometimes you can get various gamebreaking bugs

that said she does repair the elevator unless she dies which is a quick way through the floors

i love all the comments of rpg elements and "just fix the elevator"

not all builds have the skill to repair anything, much less the elevator

new vegas has a dogshit build system and most early level builds are gonna be close to exactly the same anyway because of how many specials points you get and how the perk unlock funnel is
