Dear Europe: Germany has shown the way forward, by making the Open Document Format (ODF) mandatory within its sovereign digital infrastructure. Now it's time for other countries to do the same! https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/03/23/dear-europe/ #foss #opensource #freesoftware #openstandards

@libreoffice I sent Italo an email about this, but this series of blog posts is really sabotaging LibreOffice.

If you want the world to be able to escape Microsoft Office, you need to stop claiming LibreOffice is incompatible with it! LibreOffice is a great drop-in compatible replacement and *that* is what you should be marketing.

Telling people you can't work with Office is just announce LibreOffice can't do the job people need it to.

@libreoffice LibreOffice should delete every one of these rampages about ODF vs OOXML, and loudly proclaim LibreOffice is the best solution for working with both of them. Because it is, but your blogs aren't selling that.

If you want ODF to be the dominant format, you need to get people using LibreOffice *first*, which comes from marketing compatibility, and then people will naturally defer to saving in the default/best supported format for their software.
