For several weeks I’ve been spending an hour every weekday afternoon patrolling near an elementary school.

A group of us watches for ICE as students walk home. This is a community that’s been targeted before and experienced abductions.

Residents are familiar with me now. They’re waving. They’re rolling down their windows so I can see them smile. One stopped today and introduced himself.

A simple wave anymore makes my day. Community made civilization possible.

@talkingmoose This is such a good thing to do!

What’s the plan for if ICE shows up? Are you supposed to resist them or just document / observe? Do you call the other watchers to have kids wait with them?

@imatthewcm We’re there to warn the school if we see activity so they don’t send students outside. All we can do is blow whistles, scream and shout, and document. We also have access to rapid response channels to alert the area and bring anyone in the area to observe and resist.

There was activity about the second or third week I did this. But it happened before we were schedule to arrive. I was told ICE did take someone from the nearby apartments.
