Quick reminder, especially if you’re a freelancer or developer using Free/Pro/Pro+ plans for client work: Opt out of GitHub using your data for AI model training before April 24 (seriously, wtf that this isn’t opt-in!).
https://github.com/settings/copilot/features#copilot-telemetry-policy
@matthiasott Better yet, leave github. Microsoft is known for flipping switches back on your behalf.
@slotos @matthiasott If only all the projects I'm working on also leave GH, then I'd leave it for good.
@slotos @matthiasott Just disabled all copilot stuff there and deleted my account, honestly I dont see myself going back.
@matthiasott this was oddly off already for me
@matthiasott Thanks for the heads-up. Bastards opting-in by default. 🤬🤬🤬🤬
@matthiasott Thx...opted out, then logged out and got a "choose account to log out" page. I have only one account. 🙃
@matthiasott
For some reason this was already disabled for me and I don't remember doing that...

@jonasgeiler The setting, or at least similar settings, have been around for a while. I check in regularly and turn off all that can be turned off, and when I got the notification from GitHub about this, I noticed it was already disabled.

@matthiasott

@matthiasott @schmidt_fu Just find another git? git.lighthouse.co.im
https://hauntedlighthouse.co.im no AI involved
@matthiasott there will be no interaction data if not interacting with it  (...hopefully  )
Disabling that still seems to be a good idea - thanks for the hint!
As far as I understand this only applies to your use of GitHub's AI features, which you probably don't use anyway
@grishka I'm surprised at how many people who have been putting this toggle on blasting are omitting, or in the case of @matthiasott cropping out, the most pertinent detail of how this affects basically no one who would have been boycotting the functionality in the first place. Maybe that could change in the future but burning people out on enragement-bait now seems more to foment cult-like follower behavior and discourage critical thinking skills.
@matthiasott I installed Github app from Fdroid. After 5 mins I deleted the app 😁.
@matthiasott github is worse of if i leave it on cause all my shit is trash lol
@matthiasott Disabling this is quite obvious, but don't we also have to go to settings/copilot/coding_agent --> 'Repository access' and select 'No repositories' ???

@matthiasott "You won't have access to this feature."

LOL!!!

Fuckers.

@matthiasott It's silly to pretend that this toggle has any actual effect.
@matthiasott just wondering why they would care about this preference, at this point all big tech settings regarding privacy are just buttons with color, and has no link to the backend or changing any settings?
@matthiasott @loadhigh thanks for the heads up. Done!
@matthiasott Thanks a lot: I wasn't worry because I had already opted-out of Copilot, but this is yet another setting to adjust.
@matthiasott Thanks, i just checked and somehow it was enabled... purged both options now.
@matthiasott Isn't it illegal in European Union?
@matthiasott Thanks for the reminder. Took care of that right away.
@matthiasott A part of me is tempted to let copilot learn from my coding. 😀
