Oof. It looks like Apple will be adding a bunch of AI stuff I don’t want in iOS 27 and MacOS 27. Here’s hoping my iPhone SE doesn’t support this, just as it doesn’t support much of Appple Intelligence to date — and I hope I can still keep my Mac on Mac OS 15 (Sequoia).

And I hope we’ll have an option to turn all this AI stuff off.

Apple Plans AI Reboot With Siri App, New Look and ‘Ask Siri’ Button in iOS 27

Apple Inc. is testing a standalone app for its Siri voice assistant alongside a new “Ask Siri” feature that will work across the company’s software, part of a broader artificial intelligence overhaul.

@jeridansky lots if ways to do things I never wanted to do anyway. I hate the idea of Siri integrated into every function. So far I have never used it at all.
@CaraBruar Agreed. I only use Siri for driving instructions on my phone — and that's valuable to me, so I hope they don't mess it up. On my Mac I have the language set to Malay, which isn't supported — so no Siri there.
@jeridansky I know it's only code, but I don't want to have to learn a new way to drive the thing for no perceived advantage. And the security implications worry me too.
@jeridansky well hopefully it will stay optional. The current “AI” is an optional 2GB download and addition to the OS. I don’t mind that, as I’ve chosen to save the space. 😁
@jeridansky It's all been optional so far, and I'm hopeful they'll keep it that way. I turned on the so-called "AI" features for a while and there was no benefit to it whatsoever. Most of it was gimicky stuff about creating stupid images. The email app would show a passive-voice and not at all useful summary of the contents of each message in the inbox, rather than the first few words of text. Total waste of time.
