Just a thought about the #future of #android .

It is driven by a US company, and the US become more authoritarian.

For me, it seems like a company mindset changing from liberty to gatekeeping.

They kill #sideloading, next they might close the #bootloader . Or perhaps stop contributing to #aosp .

So I am thinking: why should I put more of my free time into #android #apps ?

Likely, things will get even more worse over time.

Would it not be a better choice to move to where real #freedom is, like native #linux apps, or native #java ?

Perhaps native #linux will get mature on mobile devices one day.

Any thoughts on this?

@Billie I am one of the early users supporting and buying Jolla phones powered by SailfishOS which is mostly open source and based on Linux. But as they where having a hard time I was switching back to Android based phones in the meanwhile and because I missed the note that they'll publish a new phone soon. Not to long agoI switched to Shiftphone as they seem to be the most open and european based smarthome manufacturer including Googlefree Android support without loosing warranty. Due to the recent changes by Google I hope that #Linux on mobile will grow up over the next years - mabye SailfishOS based or any Linux distribution, but I guess we need to be a bit patient.

@mat

Nice to hear that. Being a hobbyist developer, I would like to contribute with an app or two to this new #linux ecosystem .

You need some good apps.

With #imagepipe and #TinyWeatherForecastGermany , I contributed to the #fdroid ecosystem and strengthened it, because I did not publish via the Google play store. So anybody who wanted them had to install #fdroid or "sideload" them.
