OK, so the Sawtooth G4 has been put away and I've pulled out the Power Macintosh G4 MDD, with dual 867 MHz PowerPC G4 7455 CPUs. This one belonged to my dad, so I know that it works, but I wanted to make sure since it had been a while since it was turned on, and thankfully, it still does. Specs below and in the screenshots.

This is running Mac OS X "Tiger" and was also able to load my Netatalk share from the FreeBSD desktop PC next to it.

I've also connected the Jaz drive to it and want to see if it can get it to detect the drive and mount it.

Hello from PowerFox on Mac OS X Tiger on the Power Mac G4 MDD!

It's quite slow on this Mac, TBH, but I think it might be the lack of enough RAM and that this version is beta software. Still, it's nice to be able to browser the modern web on this Mac.

Since Mac OS X isn't allowed for MARCHintosh posts, I've removed the hashtag from the previous post and left it out on this one.

Now it's more personalized to my liking.  💚
@claudiom That's great, would use it on our old 2010 MacBook air. I installed the linux and just can't get the MacOS back. Tried recovery, etc. Seems the bootloader is janked
@BeamMeOut That sucks. Have you tried hitting Cmd+R on startup to perform an Internet Recovery of Mac OS?
@claudiom Yeah I did, but it stops after the first restart, bumps me back to the bootloader and nothing happens :(
@BeamMeOut Zapping PRAM or resetting the PMU does nothing?
@claudiom I'm bit afraid to do that tbh 😅. We're still using it and don't have a handy replacement.

@claudiom kinda surprised there isn't a MARCHintosh exception for OSX on PPC 😆

(I feel like I should fire up the ol' iBook G4 and update OpenBSD there to at least partake a bit in the celebrations)

@gumnos Yeah, I'd think that at this point, older versions of OS X on those classic Macs should be considered, but it is what it is.
