@klizana Yes, good call to not go đŸ˜±
@klizana Ugh. And there was some talk about how having this separate stationery fest might alleviate some of the traffic at the pen show because people who go to the pen show for stationery have a different show to go to. I don’t think it’ll affect pen show attendance whatsoever. I feel like even if this show survives and has a couple more years to straighten out, the pen show won’t be affected because SF is starved for stuff like this.
@jezlyn yeah, I really think nothing will change unless something terrible happen inside the venue.
@klizana @jezlyn this sounded interesting but I saw concerns (maybe yours?) and decided not to try and go. Are there other producing better shows around here you’d recommend?
@genex @klizana I don’t know of other major pen or stationery shows in the SF area. There is an SF “pen posse” meetup group which does weekly-ish local meetups, but I don’t usually attend as the timing doesn’t work for me. They’re a lot more chill, of course, and unstructured. I think there’s also a journaling group, but I don’t know the details. Both groups are on Instagram, and possibly Facebook. The SF pen posse also has a Discord channel.
@genex @klizana I think the issue is that a lot of niche communities organize events like this and are more “scrappy” in how they handle logistics (I don’t mean to offend or diminish their efforts), so when the events get too big, logistics don’t scale well. I really think the group behind the SF pen show need to reconsider. It’s a major international event.
@jezlyn @klizana thx for the info! Figured maybe the SF Center for the Book might do something (or maybe they could?) since they’re kinda adjacent. (Didn’t see anything in their website though)
@genex @jezlyn yeah, I don't know of other events like this. I actually came today, and it's full even for a Sunday. On the bright side most vendors had a lot of stock left, but still too crowded for me. I lasted less than an hour and left.
@klizana @genex Interesting to know that by Sunday a lot of vendors still had stock. Pen show vendors, especially popular ones, probably wouldn’t have a lot left by Sunday.
