Are there non-Ring doorbells that do push notification to your phone instead of ringing in the house? I have nervous cats.
@Ashedryden
I have a Lorex doorbell, if it's not connected to your ringer thing it would just do the phone thing. Bonus is that video stuff is on a SD card
@Ashedryden (Maybe on the flip side, and pardon me if you've tried this already, but... it might be possible to train the cats to associate the bell with treats/playtime)
@Ashedryden https://aeotec.com/products/aeotec-doorbell-6/ makes a wireless doorbell you can hook up with, for instance, a Z-Wave hub, Home Assistant, and Twilio. When my doorbell gave out a couple years ago I jury-rigged something similar, but it... wound up being a bit flaky.
@Ashedryden I coded a virtual doorbell that sends me a text message that somebody's at my door. On my front porch where you'd expect the doorbell to be, there's a URL and QR code to display the virtual doorbell on your phone.

@Ashedryden yes, you can setup #Ubiquiti #UniFi and configure that to your liking.

  • Including phone notifications.
@Ashedryden unifi and doorbird both do!
@Ashedryden unifi does, and sends notifications to my phone and watch.
@Ashedryden #lowtech solution: attach the doorbell wire to a bicycle lamp that you screw to the wall
@Ashedryden Reolink do a Power over Ethernet or WiFi camera doorbell that pushes notifications. There is a mains-plug-in powered ringer separately but you can just not use it

@Ashedryden Someone already suggested Reolink as I was inclined to suggest. I do want to add that most Reolink devices can work with Home Assistant, so that's a good plus.

I don't want to support Ring, but for what it's worth, you can get "chimes" to add to it and then disconnect it from the ringer. My house didn't have a ringer and rather than deal with installing one I just did that sort of thing over the years. The "Chimes" can be configured on how they sound, including various sounds and volume level and just not even placed where not needed. I would assume there is an equivalent among non-Ring devices as well. The advantage of this is you could find something that doesn't worry the cats. Perhaps this gives you a second possibility to widen your choices.

@Ashedryden I use reolink (also doesn't upload to the cloud if you don't want!). You can use their app for notifications via cloud, or I personally doing it through HoemAssistant ... All local!
