I get really (really) distracted when there's a tv on and stop taking part in the conversation. Likely part of this is because I was not allowed to talk when my dad wanted to hear something on the news and I would get yelled at, regardless of whether this was at the dinner table or not. Pretty sure I'm now wired to think that TV time = quiet time.
