The Jellyfin desktop client got deprecated in favor of an "experimental rewrite" with one of its three goals to test "the effectiveness of Claude Code as a tool to aid application rewrites"

@ieure will this nightmare ever end
@ieure what in the fuck why
@zzt Guess: The original was tightly coupled to gross hackery of Qt 5.x, which is now deprecated, and they couldn't make them work with Qt 6.
@ieure Literally just this morning going "Ugh, I've been swearing at Kodi for years, all the cool dudes are using Jellyfin, guess it's time for me to NOPE

@ieure that's a welp of significant magnitude

but also if it's an "experiment"... wouldn't you refrain from deprecating until it's proven out?

@ieure The use of CEF by itself is an insult to the users too.
@ieure Just why 🙄
@ieure WTF... So does it update automatically into this crap ?
@ieure welp, one more addition to my "software to never ever update again" list

@Monolecte @ieure i use wholphin (on my two android box), and i love it. I keep official apps only to access admin settings.

Edit: sorry, i just noticed that it is about desktop app...

@ieure @proprietedusage tu es jellyfiner non ?
@perdantperdant @ieure yep après j'utilise pas l'appli desktop mais bon, trop relou
@ieure I'm using kodi as a frontend on the box that's hooked up to my TV, I swore there had been a functional jellyfin front end but it was garbage when I was trying it recently and I guess that explains why.
@ieure even if it wasn't "AI", how the fuck does an "experimental" version deprecate a released one before the experiment is complete?
@ieure nooooo. That really sucks.
@ieure Oh, God. Fucking hell.
@ieure
Didn't they publish a fairly strong policy against AI-generated code last month?
(might be thinking of some other Home Theatre PC project)
@moses_izumi I don't see anything like that in their contributor documentation, but this is a client, so I don't think it'd apply even if that was the case.
