One of the finest kits of retro gaming: legendary 16 bit Sega Mega Drive, Sega Mega-CD extension to play games from CDs and a fancy set of additional RISC CPUs packed in MegaDrive 32X addon making console 32 bit

Mega Drive (Genesis) consoles were known for excellent sound, so  as medium improved allowed game size (video and audio) even more compared to cartridges, thus providing richer experience

MegaDrive 32X served as a promising transition from 16 bit to 32 bit era before release of Sega Saturn

@gytisrepecka I completely agree. It's the most modular system ever. Great you could do upgrades without changing everything. I love mega drive! ❤️

@gytisrepecka Lol, to be fair though, not many people at all could afford to have a SEGA/MEGA CD and a 32x. And honestly there's not a whole lot for the 32x (and wasn't there only like one CD game that could use it?)

But, on the other hand, it was super neat that they at least gave people the option of this. If it hadn't aligned with the wrong timing (eg the Saturn and other more powerful systems coming out) it very possibly would have been the peak gaming of its time. Especially with Nintendo failing to secure a deal for their own CD addon. (I'm still confused by that. I know why they rejected SONY — the requirements were off the charts ridiculous — but not why they didn't do Philips or anything else.)

@nazokiyoubinbou I only seen Sega 32X games in cartridges, to be honest

Must admit I was lucky to get Sega MegaDrive 32X (European PAL) - there aren't too many around

Mega-CDs are also difficult to find, let alone in acceptable shape...

@gytisrepecka Yeah, the 32x didn't enjoy a lot of popularity. Honestly, the few games I ever tried on it didn't seem so special either. One is a port of a game with a non-32x version and I can hardly tell the difference, but the Sega/Mega CD version is better to me because of the kicking soundtrack anyway. Of course I mostly only get to do emulation. My Sega Genesis has long gone the way of the dodo.
