I just raised my #DwarfFortress population cap to 600 from 200 because not having new dwarves show up is boring. Will I regret this? Maybe not as much as my carpenters.

@mikebabcock From what I know, I think you're computer may as well.😂
@retrosponge I'm doing okay at 100+ fps with 200 dwarves, so long as I manage fires and smoke when they happen.

@mikebabcock Good. I've never gotten that far into the game, but I have heard of the game starting to perform really badly.
@retrosponge it simulates a *lot* of things on every frame, including the spread of fires, creation of smoke, and movement of liquids. Luckily #dfhack, the fully authorized add-on that gives you even more options when playing has the ability to just "remove smoke" or "put out all fires" if you want your FPS to go back above 1 when a fire-breathing beast attacks your forest.
Speaking of interesting things that happen in #DwarfFortress because of forgotten beasts and fire -- I had a fire breathing beast evaporate all the water in one of my caverns, which also happened to be my primary source of fish at the time.
Entire lake turned to vapour.
