I had a hard drive die on a local network server but I can’t find a replacement anywhere in a nearby store and it looks like it’ll be a week or two shipped from every retailer. Is this market shortage a dumb byproduct of AI and crypto crap? Iran war?
@mathowie I think it's AI. I got a bad NAS drive a few weeks ago and the replacement doesn't come until a week or two into April.

@jalefkowit aw fuck yeah that’s it
@mathowie late stage capitalism.
@mathowie If it's a slightly older drive, it can be that they just don't make it any more or they only make a few.
@cruftbox naw it’s AI farms gobbling up everything they can find
@mathowie Yes. My employer is saying “is there any hardware we’ll need 6 months from now? We should have ordered it last month.”
