EPA approves sale of a higher-ethanol fuel to try to lower gas prices

The Environmental Protection Agency has announced it would allow gas stations to continue selling slightly cheaper E15 this summer in a move that may be good for drivers and corn growers but will likely contribute to air pollution.

@ai6yr @User47 I'm not worrying about smog. I'm worrying about screwing up my engine.
@mlanger @ai6yr Why not both? But I hear you. I pay way too much for ethanol free. There are few suppliers here so prices are wildly variable

@User47 @ai6yr Smog is not an issue where I live. Traffic is generally not an issue where I live, either. It's hard to be concerned about something that isn't noticeable.

It's well accepted that ethanol in fuel is not good for engines, especially small engines. I spend a lot of money to buy ethanol free fuel for all of my small engines, just to prevent costly and usually inconvenient carburetor repairs.

In a perfect world electric vehicles powered by renewable energy would be the solution.

@mlanger @User47 I hate dealing with clogged carbs! I took it upon myself to learn how to fix small engines some years ago, and ethanol fuel in those engines was most certainly the number one problem (clogs the carbs for sure!). Only Premium gas in generators now, run them dry... (converted one generator to trifuel to just avoid gasoline entirely).

@ai6yr @User47 I’ve got an 82-gallon fuel tank with solar powered pump on a trailer that I used for my helicopter biz. I’m probably going to repurpose it this year to store ethanol free fuel for my DR Mower, string mower, and ATV. The boat’s dingy motor (a 6HP Suzuki 4 stroke) already gets ethanol-free fuel β€” or at least it’s supposed to. It’s getting a carburetor clean now.

My Honda only gets premium fuel; it’s required. Occasionally, I’ll put ethanol free premium in. $$$ OUCH!

@mlanger @User47 LOL 82-gallons for a string mower might last you several centuries
@ai6yr @User47 The DR Mower and ATV are fuel hogs compared to the string mower. I bet I’ll go through 82 gallons in a year.
@mlanger @User47 Oh yeah, I'm sure the ATV would use that fuel, lol.
@ai6yr @User47 I used to put 100LL in it. Sure ran hot!
