I just received this version of Windows 98. Yes, Windows 98, not Windows 98 Second Edition. The original! I used this CD-ROM to update my 86Box VM from Windows 95 and everything worked right out of the box without any issues with drivers or within its device manager. It even managed pretty high-res resolutions and full 24-bit color. 😜

@dfx nice, but why would you *not* want 98SE? It fixed a lot and patched a lot.
@lymang I'm not against Windows 98 SE, but I also want Windows 98 FE to be part of my retro collection. Because it was the system I used in the summer of 1998 and we created some good memories together. Windows 98 SE only came out in 1999 and to me, back then, it only felt like another Service Pack.
@dfx ah, gotcha! Completion’s sake and nostalgia! I understand that.
@lymang Exactly! Also, I still remember, a few years later, reading an article about Windows 98 as a retro system, in which it was explained that Windows 98 only became usable after Windows 98 SE. I still believe this to be complete bullshit, because at the time, people really loved Windows 98, even with its bugs and occasional crashes.
@dfx I used Win98 personally as well, but I will say that at work, we declined to move from Win95 to Win98 until SE due to major issues that we’d seen in use and testing.
