Sony is raising PS5 prices by $100 in April

Sony is raising the prices across all of its PS5 models, with the standard version costing $649.99 instead of $549.99.

@cyberseckyle Most of these devices were manufactured long before RAM prices went up though. Sony is playing it off as if they are just now making these and had to pay higher prices for RAM.

When a company that large buys in bulk, they don't pay those high prices like we do as a retailer.

@cliffwade I get that. They have a bulk stash of RAM six years worth? Given that they are still manufacturing the console and purchasing more stock of RAM then yeah, increase in price would cause it.

@cyberseckyle Not quite what I'm saying. While yes, they do have a stash as they purchased a huge bulk ahead of pricing really jumping. And, again, being such a large company, they don't pay the high prices we pay. Are they higher, yes, but not that much.

We're going through the same thing where I work. Our prices aren't going up at all because of it and we're nowhere near as large as a company like Sony is.

@cyberseckyle Wholesale plays a huge part and certainly makes a difference.

But most of these big companies get notice ahead of time when things like this are going to happen, so it allows them to purchase in bulk before the price change actually happens, allowing them to stock up and be prepared way more than others.

Again, it's exactly what we did where I work and those RAM prices aren't really affecting us right now and won't for a while to come.

I thought the original price was a bit much.. looks like the basement dwellers are gonna have to do some extra chores for their gaming fix.. lol..sigh..
