How are we in a world where these two statements are widely seen as simultaneously true: (1) You always know when you see a trans woman so Sex Matters toilet terrorists are just fine, and (2) trans women are so sneaky the IOC has to catch them out with genetic testing?

There has only ever been one trans woman athlete at the Olympics, and she finished last. It wasn't a trans sneak attack, the athlete made no secret of her history. There is no evidence at all of trans women "stealing" sport from cis women. In fact, trans women are underrepresented on the winner's podium.

This ban is transphobic but the direct victims of the ruling are intersex and cis women who are now required to "prove" they are women. The violence is that people who have lived their whole lives as women will be told they aren't really valid. That they are a threat to their sisters.

Fuck the IOC.

Alliance of rights organizations and the UN condemn the IOC:

Olympics: Sex Testing Harms All Women and Girls

The IOC should abandon plans to mandate sex testing and ban trans and intersex athletes – which would set women’s sport back 30 years.

@SecondUniverse

this was tried before and it was a human rights violation and a disaster

"In recent years, sport eligibility regulations have targeted women of color from the Global South, often with no evidence and on the basis of appearance."
...
"Finally, the IOC and International Federations (IFs) are in no position to oversee how mandatory genetic screening will be implemented across 200+ diverse national contexts. While this has the potential to harm all women and girls, the harms would be particularly pronounced in Global South countries that have fewer resources and protections for athletes. According to the U.S.-based non-profit The Inclusion Playbook, the sex verification testing proposed by the IOC can cost upwards of $10,000 USD per athlete; how IFs or other governing bodies will pay for these costs remains to be seen."

@SecondUniverse
estimated price of testing $10k

fuck this shit πŸ‘ŽπŸ˜Ύ

@SecondUniverse it's because Caitlin Jenner is the only trans athlete that has ever existed and they all will be exactly the same. There's no way there is a entire spectrum of people who have a lived experience that could be seen as anything other than a ploy to win a contest that has little to no money attached to it. All to impress a bunch of mouth breathing, bigoted, under educated, over confident, assholes sitting on their couch thinking they could do the thing you've dedicated your life to.
@SecondUniverse All women should ignore the Olympics forever. Set up an inclusive one for women, trans people and those with variable genetic profiles. The IOC is a misogynistic trash bully with a limited view or understanding of who women are, and even less understanding of the massive variety across the genetic and dna spectrum.

@SecondUniverse

Well to seriously answer your question (because understanding the situation is important to addressing it) the two statements can be seen as true because one context is more quantitative and rules-defined than the other.

Bathroom activities are largely defined by social norms. Olympic activites are defined by rules of games.
