This is morning rush hour just outside of the city center of Utrecht, NL.

About 60% of people enter center city #Utrecht by bike, 17% by walking, 14% by transit, and the smallest fraction by car.

It's an important reason why the city works well for everyone.

I love Dutch cities, particularly Utrecht. They are walkable, bikeable and breathable…and their public transport is pretty amazing too. What’s not to like?

@JugglingWithEggs @CathyTuttle Citizen"from Utrecht here: You are absolutely right, although our public transport system"in Utrecht has became a mess since an other company took over and the province demanded all busses should be electrjc.

@vitallie @CathyTuttle

When I searched ‘Utrecht electric buses’, I got the following initial response:

‘Utrecht is aggressively transitioning to a fully zero-emission public transport system, aiming for a fully CO2-neutral bus fleet by 2028.’

This was from Solaris Bus…and I sense there is some political tension in the phrase ‘aggressively transitioning’.

I live in a UK city with electric buses that have come online in past 2 years. It’s brilliant.

@CathyTuttle time to swap. Cars get the red bike path, bikes get the road
@CathyTuttle it would be marvellous if the bicycles in Edinburgh travelled at that speed.
@peterbrown @CathyTuttle Is that fast? or slow? Sorry for asking but I'm curious - since in Milano, urban biking is still an extreme sport to survive car doors etc. - so I'm already happy and surprised to see so many relaxed bikers in this nice video.

@boz @CathyTuttle unfortunately a lot of cyclists in Edinburgh move far too fast getting into conglict with pedestrians, vehicles and other cyclists.

It’s a minority, but the impact is disproportionate to their numbers.

@CathyTuttle That rush hour feels both not very rushed nor crowded. Which is impressive, honestly!

@CathyTuttle I love this... but from where are people entering Utrecht by bike? It's at least a 1h bike ride from every other bigger city like Amersfoort.

So for this to work I guess you need 60% of people "entering the city" actually living just outside the city / on the city borders.

@feyter @CathyTuttle Plenty of smaller towns around Utrecht. For me it's a 30 minute bike ride to work in the city centre.
@CathyTuttle Familar 😁 😻 I only use those two, bike and bus!
@CathyTuttle i've heard great things about Utrecht! Would so much like to live there someday.
@CathyTuttle #utrecht is a nice town and fine to live in.. A lot af transformations happens in favour of the bike. But sometimes you have to have eyes on sticks for cruising safe. Have you seen Vredenburg and Westplein at rush ours? That is even more impressive.
