As much as I loved crocheting those blankets recently, I’m now back to my original beau, knitting.

Which, whisper it, is way more fun in my opinion…

Longtime readers might remember the Zelda scarf I started but had to rip out twenty rows in due to multiple mistakes.

I’ve decided to restart it today, and so far so good.

Wish me luck, this one is a complex behemoth of a pattern.

A quick update: 23/799 rows done.

We have the start of The Master Sword.

Trust me, it’s there 😅

Will be much clearer after another 23 rows.

Zelda scarf progress update:

▓░░░░░░░░░ 6.8%

55/799 rows done.

We have The Master Sword! And Navi! And some potions!

This is such an intricate design but it’s at the stage now where you can see what you’re making so that spurs you on to make more :)

I can’t decide which side I like more.

Which one do you like? Let me know.

Friends.

Thanks to a crippling acutely locked back, I haven’t been able to sit up long enough to work on this scarf *sad face*

It started easing off yesterday so today I managed to work on another 15 rows, and it felt gooooood :)

The glade around the master sword is now complete, and if you look carefully you might see the start of a flying dragon ;)

Hopefully the stupid back will continue to improve and I can work on this in earnest.

@Sobtanian Oh no! I hope your back improves! That's been a while now this time hasn't it?

Beautiful work on the scarf though!

@andycarolan well-remembered! I had a huge problem ages ago that lead to an operation.

Last Friday I had exactly the same back pain but thankfully without any leg pain (unlike last time) so I was hoping it would get better with physio and it did.

Been really bad though, at its worst I was mostly crawling around 😅

Thanks. Scarf looks good I agree.

@Sobtanian Glad there's improvement this time!

Back pain is the worst! I've had real bad muscular back pain in the past which for some reason is helped almost instantly by Diazepam... which the docs understandably don't like to prescribe. I remember being marooned in the bath for 90 mins unable to move lol.

Looking forward to seeing the finished scarf!

@andycarolan yeah diazepam would have solved it quicker, it’s a muscle-relaxant and used for acute spasm which it sounds like you had and I did too.

I didn’t want to get any, I don’t like feeling zonked so I just tolerated it.

Interestingly, bed rest is now no longer recommended and admittedly I got better moving about during the day, but the first hour or two in the morning were pure hell.

@Sobtanian Yup, acute spasm totally describes it! I think last time, many years ago, the doc reluctantly prescribed 3 (three) tablets lolol. I think it was solved with the first one.

I didn't find that they made me feel any more zonked than most anti-histamines... but I'm weird with those anyway, even if I have second generation non-drowsy.

Ugh, I imagine that it locks up at night when you sleep. Human bodies eh... I'm sure we weren't built for this planet lol

@andycarolan yeah diazepam has a street value and is very addictive hence the reluctance.

Yeah locks up at night and is extremely painful in the morning.

FFS.

@Sobtanian It’s looking so good! Also I continue to find your alt text inspirational. Mine is always so blah straight forward
@consumablejoy it’s all about making sure people know how sexy the hand is 😅
@Sobtanian so sorry to hear about your back! The scarf looks so fun
@venite thanks! It is fun but it’s very detailed and with 4 ply yarn so fiddly also 😅
@Sobtanian great work! Hope u get well soon
@smarty_ants thank you and thank you!
@Sobtanian Wow! That is so, so cool. And yes, the start of the dragon is clear! I love it. (And I hope your poor back is feeling better soon.)

@dianemagras thanks and well-spotted!

(Also thanks!)

@Sobtanian Navi!!! 🧚
@venite don’t tell me you like her. The annoying so and so.
@Sobtanian wouldn’t do anything that could get me BLOCKED™
@venite she permanently BLOCKED™
@Sobtanian Both sides are beautiful.
@Jayenkai yeah? I agree with you. I think I picked nice colours for it. The original called for black and this kinda neon green but I thought fuck that.
@Sobtanian the dominantly green one just works better for me.
@thepoodge I keep changing my mind 😅
@Sobtanian double knitting is like the most amazing thing ever. Where did you get the pattern? Nifty Knitter or did you design it?

@starkraving666 I agree with you. I discovered it last year (made a Star Trek scarf for a friend, not sure if you saw it) and now I’ve got three other patterns in the queue 😅

I also really like mosaic crochet, which makes pixel art also but much thicker.

Pattern includes written instructions for the overall project, but the body of the scarf is all charted (no written instructions for that).

@Sobtanian awesomeeee, holy crap do you have a link to the Star Trek one?

@starkraving666 let me show it to you first haha so you can see the colours I chose for it.

I’ll find a link.

@Sobtanian Omfg I've seen this somewhere but I don't remember where, AMAZING job!! I need to put it on my list!

@starkraving666 maybe Reddit? I put it on there.

Or here when I finished it in December haha.

@Sobtanian I am immensely proud to report that I have not been on reddit in 16 years LOL so yeah I probably saw it here!! Definitely wouldn't skip the beads, too perfect!

Ravelry
@Sobtanian YESSSSSS I can't wait!

@starkraving666 enjoy. Be warned though: it’s huge haha. If you use the default DK weight like I did.

Also: please don’t skip the beads. They make the “stars” on the dark side and are beautiful. Every other make I’ve seen skips them.

@Sobtanian I prefer the one with more green, but then I love green so that's no surprise.
@Sobtanian Oh, this looks so good!
@skylartheferret Thanks, it's 800 rows of double knitting fingering weight yarn so wish me luck :D
@Sobtanian @skylartheferret Ouch! That does sound gruelling. I've not tried double knitting. I did look at a pattern yesterday and still thinking about it

@HeatherMJ @skylartheferret the double knitting itself isn’t too bad once you find a comfortable way to manipulate both colours at the same time.

I made a different scarf a while ago and it was slow and painful until I eventually found a comfortable way to hold both yarns then it was nice and quick, as you see in this photo.

The issue here is that the yarn is too fine so it’s even more fiddly 😅

That other scarf was with 8 ply DK yarn so much chunkier.

@Sobtanian @skylartheferret
Thank you. The pattern I've had my eye on is a shawl, so will need stitch increases as well. Something more straight forward might be a better start. It is fascinating

@HeatherMJ it sure is. I love how it makes a double sided fabric that’s inverse.

I agree, double knit increases and decreases are a bit of a dark art so I’d avoid them for your first project.

I would start with one of the free potholder designs here, square and not too complicated just so you get a feel for how to manage the yarn etc.

Good luck! I look forward to seeing what you make :)

@Sobtanian Thank you, my look interesting. I'm sure I'll find something suitable in my stash
@Sobtanian Be sure to store it inside of a chest and hold it above your head when you take it out to work on it.
@JTO_is_Typing haha yes! With a four note jingle every time I open it.
@Sobtanian There's gotta be a way to rig that up to a Wii remote.
@JTO_is_Typing I actually have an official 3DS cartridge case that plays the jingle when you open it 😍
