A Redesign for Profiles

Sharing the design thinking for the new look coming to profile pages.

Mastodon Blog
A new Activity tab has a dropdown menu for filtering different views of information (posts, boosts, replies) so you can find the information you're interested in.
We've reworked featured hashtags, pinned posts, and custom fields to make the most important details more easily discoverable, and make better use of vertical space.
Profile editing is now a unified experience, with everything in a single view. You can also now add alt text for profile and cover photos.

There's much more to discover! Read the blog post for more information, and let us know what you think.

These updates will start to appear on mastodon.social and other servers running nightly builds from today, and will be available to everyone in Mastodon 4.6, coming in a few weeks.

I can't use mastodon as my primary social media yet because the ui and ux are still not Facebooky enough to entice my family and friends over from facebook.
@kayrah87 this has been on my mind as well โ€“ in fact, I addressed in in my talk last week at FOSS Backstage design. I'd love to hear your thoughts in more detail sometime.

@imanijoy @kayrah87

I find the tiny space we're allocated on the left side to write posts and replies very off putting. It's too small and feels strange having to focus on the side of my screen instead of the centre. I find myself leaning to the left when I'm writing to correct for that, which isn't comfortable. Would prefer something in the middle and also inline when replying to others.

Thanks, J.

@mackaj @imanijoy @kayrah87 If you need something more Facebooky, you could also take a look at Friendica. You can interact with Mastodon from there too.

It's a little niggle and I like Mastodon otherwise, including the instance I'm on (I have a small monthly DD donation running to support it). I'd be very reluctant to start over somewhere else.

@mackaj My post was about @kayrah87 's friends who would be moving here from Facebook.
