Tectonic Wall

A pretty famous geotope in the Allgäuer Alps with extreme folds and layering. The hundreds of meters thick top layer of mostly Dolomite belongs to the Lech valley thrust sheet (215 million years old) which got pushed above the Allgäu sheet below (190 million years old, here mostly covered by overgrown talus fields) and Radiolarite from the Ruhpolding formation even further below (160 million years old and originally 2000 meter below sea level — hard to imagine!).

@DanHatesNumbers Yeah, I think so too! It's such an inspiring place & hike. You can also see fossilized fragments of coral, brachiopods, etc. near the path. The image unfortunately doesn't quite capture/communicate the size of this wall (~3km wide)...
