We do not throw away perfectly good food in this house!

We put it the fridge and let it go bad first…

@dgar this is the way.
@Heliograph it's obviously better to not let food go bad. But usually, if food go bad in my house, it's because I saved it for later and forgot about it. @dgar
@switch @Heliograph
It’s why Tupperware® was invented.
@dgar yep. To let food go bad without ruining your fridge. Genius. @Heliograph
@switch 😆 that's what's trying to prevent it from going off i guess but no packaging can hold up the inevitability of food waste in an apartment fridge
@dgar
@dgar that way it's Dad's fault for not finding it to eat for breakfast...

@dgar

Yes. I keep questionable food until it is definitely BAD and then toss it.

I always wondered if that was weird, and it's reassuring to know - if doing that *is* weird - a lot of people do it, so we can all be weird together :)

@CaseyL @dgar Please don't do this. My mother did this as a kid to me, insisting food was not good. She also didn't know why I was constantly sick. Turns out I had constant food poisoning and now my colon is paying the price.

@scrubbles @dgar

Oh, gosh, I don't eat it! I just wait until I know for sure it's gone bad.

(I wouldn't feed it to anyone else, either!)

@CaseyL @dgar It has to be rotten for me to place it in the compost. I can usually use at least some of what is on its way out. #priceofgroceries
@CaseyL @dgar I join this weird crew 🙂
@dgar 😂 I put leftovers in the freezer and eat them when I’m ready, no waste
@kaydenpat @dgar Yeah, I don't understand this whole throwing food out business. The fridge will most often keep it fresh long enough to get eaten, if there's too much, the extra goes in the freezer and if there's food that need eaten and I'd rather eat something else, I'll eat the damn leftovers like a fucking adult and if I want to eat that something else tomorrow, then I'll make some of it tomorrow... ? Any weird leftovers go to the stray cats, usually (stuff like a bit too much mashed potatoes, unapetizing bits of meat from the broth, that sort of thing). They get cat food, but they'll FIGHT for the kitchen scraps...
@dgar I use the same technique!
@dgar I just avoid good food to begin with. 🤔

@dgar

a sequence so common in our house:

"we should save this. we can find a way to use it."

narrator: it gets thrown out, spoiled, on the Sunday fridge clean every time.
