And now it's time for a "very specific to me" gripe:

For goddess' sake... post the direct URL to your podcast's RSS feed. You don't have to encourage people to use it. Just put it there, for assholes like me, who don't want to listen to your podcast on fucking Spotify.

@cyberpunklibrarian It isn't only you.
@cmdln @cyberpunklibrarian One of us...one of us ...

@grueproof @cmdln "Find my podcast on Spotify!"

No... No I don't think I will.

@cyberpunklibrarian And be sure to subscribe to us at libsyn dash cdn dot us dash west dash 1b dot amazon a w s dot slash 675402 slash 33b slash podcast underscore feed dot x m l or by typing "Two White Dudes" into your podcast search bar wherever you get your podcasts.
@cyberpunklibrarian I dunno if that's SUPER specific to you. :) I find myself frustrated about that too, often. I think anyone who uses a podcast app that they like would apprecite that. I do wonder if maybe there are a lot of people who literally don't have an RSS feed, though, and publish directly to Spotify. While I would argue that that might technically make it not a podcast, it might still be a thing.
@PastaThief Oh I sat here for a good two minutes telling myself "Don't get into the 'if there's no RSS feed then it's not a podcast thing' because down that road lies madness." 😆
@cyberpunklibrarian Is there a federated Activity Pub solution for hosting your own podcasts? Why feed surveillance capitalism platforms like spotify? Set yourself free and use a federated platform or better yet, self host ;-). All spotify does for you is exploitation, and if you don’t control the platform you may find yourself competing with fascists and nazis for attention from the algorithm 🤮

@CaptMorgan @cyberpunklibrarian The federated solution you’re looking for is… the RSS feed! :) Anyone can host one, and all of podcasting works on it.

(Almost all, given that both Spotify and Apple are nibbling away at the edges to break it, but they do still use RSS for almost everything).

@cyberpunklibrarian
"Wherever you get your podcasts"

Okay, fine, but what if I want to get my podcast from... You?

@objectrecycler @silvermoon82 Absolutely! I've always offered RSS on the site. Basically I have links to Apple, because yeah, kinda the de facto index. Then there's a link to Overcast, which is my preferred podcast listening app. And then RSS because hey, that'll work everywhere.

Silly thing is, Overcast just pulls the Apple directory (more or less) so it's almost like using a URL shortener to get to Apple Podcasts.

@cyberpunklibrarian @silvermoon82

I'll keep Overcast in mind, always need another way to search for podcasts. Then again, this is why I use Antennapod, saves all the hassle and keeps the feeds in one place. Used it for years, never let me down so far.

@cyberpunklibrarian Not that specific to you. The difficulty there is an RSS feed is a bad experience for a human. Tools like pod.link are good for linking

@cyberpunklibrarian

I found out that player.fm has a direct link for every podcast RSS feed. it occasionally crashes but it's the only reliable place i've found to get the RSS link.

it takes 6 clicks to get to your account (😡)

I use Feedly to collate all my podcasts by copy/pasting the RSS link into the Follow search bar. then I take a screenshot of the list of podcasts I listen to, in case Feedly shits the bed.

@cyberpunklibrarian Yes, please! I'm not going anywhere near Spotify, Itunes, or any of that stuff. I just want to use my Open Source podcatcher. I need the RSS feed, please.
@cyberpunklibrarian I almost forgot Spotify existed, so yeah, same.
