What happens when my ancient dumb doorbell dies? A new adventure with #ESPHome and #HomeAssistant, that's what!

(Spoiler: it's not complicated but does use a script and a virtual switch in ESPHome, which I hadn't done before, and anyway it was fun!)

@gilester45 We inherited one that never worked - the wires were cut off on the inside. As the external brass door bell was expensive to replace, and Wifeface didn't want a new looking plastic thing there, I shoehorned in a tactile switch suitable for low wetting currents and made a cheap £5 doorbell kit from the local tat shop work with it.

One day I'll get round to sticking it on an ESP or Pico-W and adding it HA, but no-one ever uses it. They all bang on the door.
