I played a tin whistle for a bit. It's a simple instrument but the complexity (if you want to go there) of grace notes and other ornamentation can be astounding and beautiful.
I like the concertina. It's fun to play but not as loud as an accordion. You can't play a tin whistle quietly (it goes flat), so everyone hears your mistakes (sigh).
Concertinas are good for busking!
AND, you could do this:

I've done a bit of busking at farmers' markets with a friend. It's an interesting experience. One thing it's good for is practising new songs or tunes; because people are wandering by, you can play the same thing a number of times to a different audience (or no one...)
