I'm of the opinion that governments should fine the heck out of them, up to the point that is cheaper for them to build a solution than keeping things as they are.

@ProPublica Why the hell is this legal?! This company knows what's happening, so their actions are clearly wilfully reckless at best. There are so many things they could easily do to solve this, and the politicians who refuse to force them to fix it are responsible too.

Meanwhile, near me, a footbridge was recently installed on a footpath on the edge of a small village, where the route around is 0.5 miles, because we have a policy of removing level crossings as much as possible for safety.
